Oxburgh Hall

A very cold visit to Oxburgh Hall, about 30 minutes from Danielle's home.

It is a moated manor built in 1482. Of course, it has undergone

many changes over the years much of it remains original.

Danielle's favorite room to show us was 'The Priest's Hole',

a small octagon chamber which was

accessible only by lowering yourself down a very steep set of stairs, backwards. Of course she insisted that I make the descent and I really wondered if I was going to get out! Because the owners of the house were Catholics, a dangerous religion to be a part of after King Henry VIII created the official church of England - the Anglican Church - so that he could divorce his wife. The family provided this place of escape for their resident priest. Not a pleasant thought!

A Visit to the British Museum

We are on our way to London on the "Tube" - the rail system for all of England.

We are headed to the British Museum and I have my own personal historian and guide - my daughter, Danielle, whose degree is in History.

There is no way really to describe the British Museum, except to say it would take a month to really see everything that is on display there.

We only quickly visited the areas of Egypt, Greece and Rome and the Middle East.

The oldest artifacts that we saw were from Egypt - statues from 1200 and 1300 BC.

Sandringham - the Queen's winter home

Danielle, Tia and I spent the day touring the Queen's winter home.

Tia is a friend of Danielle's whose husband is also in the Air Force and a lovely Christian friend! Her son was Dominee's date for homecoming. We had a wonderful and blessed time together! It was a little chilly that day though - pretty common here in England.

This is the beautiful gate marking one of the entrances to the estate which is over 600 acres.

I think this is a statute of the squirrel that keeps eating my plants on our front porch at home. Don't know how he got to England!
